The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, a nonprofit institution committed to enriching the lives of children, is the largest children’s museum in the world. The more than 400,000-square-foot facility houses 11 major galleries that explore the physical and natural sciences, history, world cultures and the arts. The Children’s Museum is a place to learn and do. Whenever possible, exhibits are “hands-on” or participatory in nature. Since opening in 1964, the Indianapolis Zoo has grown into a world-class facility hosting a million visitors each year and playing a major role in worldwide conservation and research, including accomplishing the world’s first successful artificial insemination of an African elephant. The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library provides materials, programs and services in support of the lifelong learning, recreational and economic interests of all Marion County citizens. Serving residents since 1873, the Public Library system currently consists of 22 branches throughout Marion County, the Interim Central Library downtown, and bookmobile services.
IMCPL's collection of over 2.1 million items includes a variety of formats: books, books on tape, magazines, large print materials, audiocassettes, videocassettes, compact discs and DVD's. Foreign language materials are an integral part of the Library's collection. Items may be checked out by patrons with a library card, which may be obtained free of charge at any Library location.
